  1. Team Xtreme: Operation Weather Disaster               PC Compatible Version Read Me File
  2.  
  3. Welcome to the Team Xtreme: Operation Weather Disaster CD-ROM.  This file contains 
  4. installation instructions, configuration, requirements, and tips when 
  5. using the CD.
  6.  
  7. Requirements:
  8. -Double-speed CD ROM drive
  9. -Color Monitor
  10. -486/25 Mhz or better (66 Mhz preferred), or Pentium processor
  11. -Windows
  12. -SoundCard and Video Card.
  13. -Monitor set to 256 Colors (8 bit)-- the CD will warn you if color 
  14. depth is not already set
  15. -System Minimum 8 MB RAM
  16. (For optimal performance, quit all other applications before running)
  17.  
  18. The Program prefers 6 MB of RAM or more. Keeping Virtual Memory ON will 
  19. allow the program to function best.
  20.  
  21. WATCH FOR THESE:
  22. -Team Xtreme: Operation Weather Disaster will look best in 680 x 480 mode (VGA MODE). 
  23.  
  24. -In Windows control panel, 386 Enhanced section, there will be a 
  25. button that controls Virtual memory. The top is the current setting, 
  26. the bottom can be altered. Turn Virtual Memory ON when running 
  27. Team Xtreme: Operation Weather Disaster.  
  28. Additionally, set the virtual memory partition 
  29. to  5-20 Megs. Virtual Memory is also referred to as "Swap File". You 
  30. can use either a permanent or temporary swap file. Permanent is 
  31. best, but is more difficult to setup. For instructions on creating a 
  32. permanent swap file refer to your windows manual.  
  33. Team Xtreme: Operation Weather Disaster  
  34. will run more reliably with this "elbow room." Also turn on 32-
  35. bit Disk Access if your hard drive will allow it.
  36.  
  37. - Increasing your swap file will help the program
  38. have more memory to work with, and thus perform better.
  39.  
  40. -Screensavers will interfere with the graphics-- if you leave the
  41. program and the screensaver activates, then try to return to the
  42. program. Some images may be temporarily distorted or blanked out,
  43. especially in the data base. To fix this problem, select another article. 
  44. Clicking on the inventory box will refresh the items on the screen.
  45.  
  46. -If you are running with your monitor set at a resolution higher than 
  47. 640 x 480, make sure that you don't have the Large Fonts option 
  48. turned on. Failure to turn off large fonts will cause some text to cut 
  49. off. To turn off large fonts, refer to your monitor card manual.
  50.  
  51. -Multi-tasking, i.e. having another program open and switching back 
  52. and forth between it and Team Xtreme: Operation Weather Disaster will probably crash 
  53. the Team Xtreme program. Don't do it.
  54.  
  55. -If your program does happen to crash, you must restart Windows, 
  56. and preferably restart your whole system along with it for Team Xtreme to 
  57. run best. Otherwise the program will most likely continue to crash.

  60. Installation:
  61. Note: You only need to do this one time! Once your system is set, you 
  62. can run the CD again and again without repeating this installation 
  63. setup.
  64.  
  65. Your sound card driver and your video card driver must be installed
  66. in your system before using Team Xtreme: Operation Weather Disaster. 
  67.  
  68. If you have already installed the above drivers, you can go to the 
  69. next step. Use the file manager to double click on "setup.exe" on
  70. the root level of the CD. Follow the instructions on the screen.
  71. After installing Team Xtreme: Operation Weather Disaster, the installer will ask if
  72. you want to install Quicktime for Windows 2.0.1. If you do not 
  73. already have Quicktime for Windows 2.0.1 installed click "Yes".
  74. Allow the installer to remove any old copies of Quicktime it 
  75. finds on your hard disk.
  76. How to Play Team Xtreme: Operation Weather Disaster:
  77. Double-click on the Operation Weather Disaster icon located in 
  78. the "Discovery Multimedia" program group now on your hard drive. 
  79. The program will begin with an introductory movie called a 
  80. "cut scene". Periodically more cut scenes will play as your 
  81. adventure progresses. There is no interactivity during these 
  82. cut scenes. At any time you may click the mouse to skip the rest of the movie.

  84. After the Scene loads you are free to explore the area as you will. 
  85. There are two areas in which you can interact. The top 3/4 of 
  86. the screen is the Environment Window. The bottom 1/4 of the 
  87. screen is the Control Panel. 
  88.  
  89. NOTE: Everything in the program responds to Single-Clicks.
  90. There is never a reason to Multi-Click. Please don't.
  91. The Environment Window:
  92. Rolling your mouse around the screen will change the cursor 
  93. depending on where you are. When the cursor changes to a 
  94. Forward Arrow it indicates a closer view is available. 
  95. Click the mouse once to go there. Rolling your mouse to the 
  96. sides of the screen has different results depending on your 
  97. current location. In the panoramic view it will change to a 
  98. Scroll Arrow, moving your point of view either left or right. 
  99. Click and hold the mouse down to scroll twice as fast. 
  100. In the close-ups the cursor changes to a Return Arrow. 
  101. Clicking once will pull you back to the previous point of view. 
  102. When your cursor changes to a Hand it indicates potential 
  103. interaction with the environment. Click on something to pick 
  104. it up, see what it is, or see what it does.
  105. The Control Panel:
  106. The Control Panel has a variety of functions. 
  107. To the left of the control panel is your Inventory Window. 
  108. Here is where you store items you find. Click here to pick 
  109. up these items to use them on other things you see. There 
  110. are also five buttons toward the right of the Control Panel:
  111. Database: Accesses Millibar's online database of weather-related 
  112. information after she has been repaired.
  113. Hint: Millibar will analyze the surroundings and report any cross-references
  114. found in her database after she has been repaired.
  115. Repeat: Millibar will repeat her last verbal response.
  116. Help: Accesses a heads-up display that describes interface functionality.
  117. Quit: Quits the program, giving you the option to save 
  118. at the beginning of your current level.
  119. The Volume Slider increases or decreases the sound level.
  120. The Rotational Control at the right of the Control Panel 
  121. indicates your current orientation. Click and drag around 
  122. in the panoramic views to change your orientation.
  123. Navigation:
  124. At the start of each scene, and other special places, 
  125. you can spin around and look at the environment in all directions. 
  126. To do this watch for your cursor to change as you "roll it" 
  127. to the edges of the screen. Near the left-hand side of the screen, 
  128. the arrow will point left, and on the right side, the arrow points 
  129. right.  Your orientation will slowly rotate in that direction. 
  130. The closer you are to the edge of the screen, the faster you rotate. 
  131. Clicking the mouse will double your rate of rotation. Certain areas 
  132. of interest will be indicated by the cursor turning into the 
  133. Forward Arrow. Clicking there moves you in for a closer look. 
  134. To pull back one screen, move the arrow to the edge of the screen and click.
  135. Interaction:
  136. To solve the mysteries of Operation Weather Disaster you must 
  137. interact with your environment, solve puzzles, and stay on your toes. 
  138. Certain items in each scene can be picked up and used elsewhere. 
  139. The first time you arrive somewhere, if something can be picked 
  140. up it will sparkle. Moving the cursor over it will change it to a Hand. 
  141. Clicking on the item will add it to your inventory located at the 
  142. bottom of the screen. Clicking on that inventory item puts it in 
  143. your hand. To use that item on something in the environment, 
  144. click on the environment with the item in your hand. Clicking 
  145. back in the Inventory Window will return the item to the inventory. 
  146. If you ever get stumped, walk around to other areas to make sure 
  147. you have been everywhere and picked up everything you can. Then 
  148. try to use everything on everything. Sometimes unexpected
  149. objects will have unexpected results. If you still can't solve something, 
  150. you can access Millibar's Hint system. She will provide you with 
  151. enough clues to solve a particular puzzle.

  156. WALLPAPER UTILITY
  157. The installer also creates a Wallpaper Utility icon in the "Discovery
  158. Multimedia" program group. This allows you to use scenes from Team Xtreme
  159. as your background in Windows. We recommend only using 
  160. Wallpaper if your machine has more than 8 MB of memory installed
  161. as the pictures take up a significant amount of ram.
